I love those days when I can get to studio before 8 am. By now all the pots from the last throwing session are trimmed and I thought I’ll give you guys a recap of last week’s happenings while the tea brews and before I descend back to the basement, to hopefully slip and draw on all of the work, so things can dry over the Firefest meeting and be ready for a firing on the 11th.
So, Mister Oh could not make it to the Firefest at STARworks on time. International travel can be tricky sometimes. But to save the day, Andres Allik (who had already arrived from Estonia) and David Stuempfle asked if we could make something together for the – fired on site sculpture happening – this coming Saturday. We thought that one of the little birds I had made recently could be a good starting point for something much larger. Here are the little birds.
Mõeldud, tehtud – is a saying in Estonia roughly translating into “Thought. Done”.
Following are some images of the progress.
Thank you Takuro Shibata, Andres Allik, David Stuempfle, Michael Mahan for all your hard work!
The bird is now wrapped in a blanket, drying. It will be fired with gas in the beginning, then wood. The unveiling of a flaming Firebird will be on Saturday night, probably sometime after 9pm. Come see us all at the Firefest!
